Capturing Moments, Then and Now
Hello I'm Thomas Smet, Arizona wedding videographer!
My journey began in 1996, working with companies across the U.S., capturing special days and unforgettable moments. Over the years, I've had the honor of being part of hundreds of weddings—each one unique, each one meaningful.
Eventually, my path led me into the corporate world, where I spent years building a different kind of career. But the pull of storytelling, emotion, and connection never left me.
Now, I'm back—bringing decades of experience, a fresh perspective, and a renewed passion for capturing life's most important moments. Whether it's a quiet “I do” or a joyful celebration, I'm here to preserve it all.
Documentary Wedding Videography Style & Process
At Your Captured Memory, I focus on capturing your day just as it happens — real, raw, and beautifully unscripted. My documentary-style approach means no posing, no directing, and no awkward moments — just honest storytelling through film.
Every wedding is different, and I believe your video should reflect that. I blend into the background and let the day unfold naturally, preserving those fleeting, emotional, and joyful moments exactly as they were.
There's no script — just your story.
With a cinematic yet natural style, I highlight your personalities, your relationships, and all the meaningful in-between moments that make your wedding truly yours.
One of my favorite comments from a couple is "we sometimes forgot you were even there and yet captured so much"

-
Do you charge by the hour?
Nope. I don't believe in hourly limits. Your wedding day doesn't run on a clock, and neither do I. I'm there as long as I need to be to tell the full story. The one exception is a half day event like just a ceremony or just a reception. I'm still there to cover that full moment.
-
How is the final video delivered?
You'll receive a private, downloadable online link where you can stream, download, and share your wedding videos with family and friends — no account or login required for them. Alongside that, you'll get a physical copy on a USB device as a lasting backup, since digital links and platforms can eventually go away, but a physical copy won't.
-
When will we get our video?
Typical turnaround time for a complete wedding video package is 6-8 weeks. I meticulously review every second of footage from your day—from the morning preparations to the reception dance floor. I take the time to edit thoughtfully, sound-designing the audio and color-grading the footage so your documentary wedding film feels just right.
-
Can we choose the music?
I usually select music that fits the tone and pace of your day, but I'm happy to take suggestions if you have a vibe in mind. All music used is properly licensed for wedding videos — I can't use copyrighted commercial tracks pulled straight from Spotify, the radio, or similar sources, since that risks the video being muted or taken down on platforms like YouTube and Instagram.
-
Will you work well with our photographer?
Absolutely. I make it a point to connect with your photographer on the day of the event, or even during the rehearsal, to ensure we are completely aligned. I prefer an organic, go-with-the-flow approach rather than rigid pre-planning. By staying highly communicative and adaptive in the moment, I ensure we work together as a seamless creative team so you get incredible coverage from both of us without any awkward overlaps.
-
What if we're camera shy?
That's totally okay. Most couples tell me they feel camera shy before their big day! My entire documentary style is built around blending into the background. I adapt seamlessly to any environment, utilizing a low-profile approach that keeps the atmosphere natural and relaxed. Because I focus on genuine interactions rather than forcing you into stiff, awkward poses, you can completely forget about the lens and just enjoy your celebration.
-
Are there any travel restrictions?
There are no travel restrictions — I'm happy to go wherever your story takes place. If your event requires travel outside the local area, I just ask that airfare, hotel, or other necessary travel costs be covered. I'll always keep things transparent and cost-effective.
-
What if our wedding date changes?
Life happens. If you need to reschedule, your balance can be fully transferred to a new date — as long as I'm available. No added fees, no hassle. If the new date is unavailable, we'll work together on the best solution.
-
Is there a deposit?
A 25% non-refundable deposit secures your date. The remaining balance is due the week of the event, and can be paid in full or in smaller payments leading up to the day — whatever works best for you. Deposits are non refundable in the event of a cancellation.
